Kampala markets

Our last day in Uganda, steamy and teeming! We finished our interviews around 2:30pm (late arrivals and tricky cases for our last night were not really appreciated - but hey we can't complain). We thanked our lovely interpreters - including the plucky Daniel who is off to the USA in a month. He has a sixth finger wobbling off the side of his little finger, incredible hypnotic during interviews, I had to keep reminding myself to focus on what he wasy telling me. Everyone was pretty happy, especially the families who found out they would be travelling to Australia in the near future. And today I had my largest family of 11 - which was pretty squishy in the small room.
So after waving goodbye to the offices we headed straight into Ugandan traffic, and stayed there for quite some time. Emerging from the traffic jam we got out in the middle of the market district and wandered through the shops looking for suitable attire for the reception with Quentin on Sat night - the glitz and glamour of MTV trips! I found a lovely white printed dress but passed on the plastic shoes. One of the Nairobi post staff has offered to leng my shoes, so I should scrub up okay.
Going from stall to stall I heard lots of 'Hello Madam', 'Hello baby' and even some ' Muzunga Muzunga!' - which I thought was pretty obvious. The markets were teeming with humanity, clothes, bags, toiletires, staionary. I turned down an offer from a teenage boy to give me a manicure and pedicure - and managed to stop a friendly man from lightening my pocket by removing my camera! He was very shocked when I grabbed his hand and yelled at him and promptly vamooshed. I called an end to the market shopping, then we moved onto a much more sedate giftwears shop. Much more my style, got some lovely jewellery and postcards.
Up early tomorrow, its a bit of a trip to the airport in Entebbe and then fly back to Nairobi. Tanzania on Sunday!

The crazy Kampala markets!
